Data Centres in Ontario, Really?
There's a Globe and Mail article on building data centres in Canada, with the motivation being the cold weather reduces the cooling costs which are a big cost component, plus cheaper electricity costs. That certainly makes sense, although they mention an IBM site in Barrie. Should Barrie is relatively cold, colder than the Hamilton Toronto area, however situated in Ontario it has also has Ontario's high electricity prices. Quebec and Manitoba with their ultra cheap hydroelectricity would seem to be better locations. Ontario's electricity costs are going higher going forward, so building a data centre in the province doesn't seem great.
