How many Hamilton police officers are currently suspended? I'm not sure, but I thought it would be good to start keeping track. Here's a Spec article on one Inspector David Doel, who's been suspended for three years. I especially like this part:
"He argued there is particular public interest in the case given Doel has been suspended for three years.
During that time Doel has continued
to be paid, including getting raises. The hearings have dragged on for
years in the face of continual delays."
I'll be curious to see what Doel's salary is on last year's sunshine list. For 2011
his salary was $140,725.94. One wonders if the police wouldn't need such a big budget increase
if they could do a better job not hiring people that end up on the suspension list.
