Just for argument's sake, let's assume Sandra Pupatello wins the Liberal leadership for Ontario. She immediately calls a bye-election in Dwight Dunkin's Windsor riding. Now sometimes other party leaders won't run a candidate in these situations. But sometimes they do, like when John Tory ran last time and the Liberals ran a candidate who won and ended Tory's tenure as PC party leader.
So if Tim Hudak and Andrea Horwath wanted to screw with Pupatello, the NDP could run a candidate and Hudak wouldn't and he would hope PC voters would vote en masse for the NDP, denying the newly crowned Pupatello a seat. Could be interesting. Or Kathleen Wynne could win the leadership and all this game theorizing could be moot.
