Employment was down in Canada in June by 6,400 jobs after a big gain of 59,000 jobs in May. Weirdly there was a big gain in June of full-time jobs, going up 64,800 while part-time jobs declined by 71,200 jobs. I'm not sure what's up with that.
Since January, employment is up by 95,900 jobs. There's been a lot of talk of a technical recession in Canada for the first two quarters of 2015. It is certainly possibly since all you need is two quarters in a row of slightly negative growth, although it would be unusual for it to occur while employment has increased somewhat.
I'll take a look at the Ontario and Alberta numbers in a future post.
